Back in 2009 The Avalanche started out as a small Battlefield Clan. We were a combo of Norwegian and Swedish gamers which made us special in the jungle of communities. We played Bad Company 2 until the end of it’s cycle and quickly moved over to Battlefield 3. Here we grew into one of the biggest Battlefield communities in Scandinavia.
BF3 lived on for a long time, sadly the interest among our members did not. We could just have flipped the switch and shut it down right there and then, but that did not happen.
After half a year we discovered a game which seemed incredibly interesting. This game was Guild Wars 2. Coming from a FPS environment this was new and exciting to almost all of us, a limited amount of us had played an MMO in the past so this was a whole different project. We were not many left after people lost interest in BF3, but most of us who stayed was getting ready for Guild Wars with launch in August 2012.
We started looking for people, still keeping our niche with a Norwegian/Swedish combo. Even before the game had launched we grew into one of the biggest guilds in Scandinavia. We had 100 members before launch, registrered on the forums, on Mumble, getting hyped with us. It sure was a exciting time.
The launch of Guild Wars 2 was quickly upon us, already at 5am of the release date, people were on Mumble screwing around. It was probably one of the best releases I feel honored to have been a part of.
Launch day was a huge success in the Guild, we had a ton of people in-game, online and ready to level their first character. After a week or so we could already see a clear divide between players that would stick with us for a long time and people who jumped on the bandwagon at the last minute.
The guild went on for about a year and a half without any real purpose, we did not have any scheduled events or get togethers, at this point we were just a handful of friends playing the game because it was fun and that reason was enough for us. After some time the interest started to decline though and more and more people logged off one day, never to be seen again.
A year went by (now, 2014) with nothing of interesting happening, at this point The Avalanche was mostly dead. Just a few members left that logged on a few times a week to do their dailies or otherwise.
“The Avalanche” has gone through many iterations, but at the core, we’re focused on the important things.

Avalanche Gaming might look like just about any community out there, but we are quite special.
We have the resources, dedication and spirit to follow through and improve upon everything that makes us special.
We will forever be a social community. We talk, chat and stay connected throughout the day. And to start with, we enjoy games on a fairly casual level. Fun comes first, being best is a bonus.
The games we play change all the time, some times we might be playing a game a lot and suddenly get bored. Luckily there is plenty of games to choose from, and we’re not afraid to try new ones.

AV is an open and honest community, nothing happens behind locked doors and no one is left out.
Out With The Old, In With The New

In November 2014, the development started on a brand new and improved Avalanche. I had been part of a Guild Wars 2 WvW Guild where I had been a leader for about a year. After stepping up to be a leader I quickly noticed that the guild did not treat their members with the respect they deserved and after some time I had enough and left. Already before leaving I had made up some thoughts on what the new Avalanche would be. I landed on: Casual, friendly, social and professional.
Of course, coming from a WvW guild I wanted to keep doing it so at first The Avalanche was a guild focused primarily on World vs World. This was early 2015.
Around this time I also set up the our website and forums which recieved significant changes once we transitioned into casual PvE.
After some time I noticed there was no real need for another WvW Guild on the server I was playing on. So instead of losing all hope I simply turned 90° and aimed my nose at the PvE audience which turned out to be a huge success.
I turned towards the PvE audience around June/July 2015. I knew that Heart of Thorns was coming, so I could use that to my advantage. Due to the nature of MMO’s, the guild did not grow as fast as it did 2 years ago, but the graphs were pointing up instead of down. So I settled on PvE and continued from there.
In August/October I talked to a shy player that contacted me and wanted join the Guild. I sent an invite, and we talked for a bit, just like with every other member that joins.
The days went by and as usual we had Guild Missions that needed to be done and I knew I had to push Teamspeak so I could start building the social aspect. One person had the guts to show for the missions and I almost forced this poor soul to join ts, after making sure that I did not bite and was not a murderer of course. After some setting up, there were 2 people on teamspeak.
Sleazy and Nes.
The Avalanche has and will always be a place where you come to be among friends, if it’s in-game, Teamspeak or in real life. It is a Guild where you’re not just a number in the Guild Roster, but a person that everyone cares about and know who is. This is how we became huge back in the day, and that’s how we’re going to be huge in the future.
To close, I just want to say Thank You to everyone who have helped me up through the years, from the Battlefield era, through the WvW era and the chapter we are in now. Without you, I would not have made it this far, I would not have been the person I am today and would never have had the courage to go through with something like this. You know who you are and I will never forget what you’ve done, Thank You.
